An article in the Washington Post On Faith section in response to their question: "According to a new Pew survey, 21% of American atheists believe in God or a universal spirit, 12% believe in heaven and 10% pray at least once a week. What do you make of this?"

A few years ago I wrote a story on a husband and wife duo who travel around the county, living in an old van, preaching? the “good news” of evolution.

For someone who has always led life on her own terms, I consider myself quite stifled. The feeling has little to do with others imposing force (most people do it in unawareness of their own insecurities).

Lets start with what America does NOT need: It does not need a President who is deemed (by the media, the pundits, the chattering classes, the owners of capital, and the mavens of the Democratic and Republican party) "realistic," "pragmatic," "knows how government works," "not too partisan," or "savvy."

Yesterday, Candice and I took our baby boy down from LA to SD to see my dad. We have two cars in our household but when making a long distance trip with the baby, choose to use the bigger (albeit less eco-friendly but safer) SUV. Yesterday, before getting on the road, we filled the empty tank. Price:$100.00.

If you were freefalling through life, when would be a good time to stop and jerk the parachute cord? I'm guessing you'd end up with a sprained neck, a spoilt view, an aborted thrill and no real understanding of what that adventure was really all about. So let them all tut tut and tell you that's not the way to do it. It's like an adventure sport. Yes it may kill you in the, end, so please sign the release form here....

Continuing the list of what we need in terms of awareness to prevail in difficult times:
3 A vision of the future.
When people are asleep, the future is a repetition of the past, because inertia can do little else. Conservation, the party of inertia, represents the impulse in each of us not to wake up --it says "Leave me alone. I like the way I am."

Bombay Airport in the middle of the night - it's a ghost town. I landed at eleven on a weeknight and till two in the morning there were no more than fifteen people moving around like lost souls in the land of the undead.

As a woman, how can we deal with male co-workers who are socially inept and make inappropriate comments, but aren’t harassing us, per se?
One great tactic is humor.

There's a single book that I reread every year: "I Am That" by Nisargadatta Maharaj (1897-1981). The title is a quotation. In India the goal of enlightenment is to see reality as a whole. When all illusion has fallen away, one looks around and can say, with complete confidence, "I am That, you are That, and all this is That."

WHO AM l?
Bound to any group, clan or tribe to which I belong. Should I like you, for you are different from me.
I am loyal to, and will fight for a set of ideas, living in my country, surrounded by an imaginary boundary.
